How often do you wish people in your network a Happy Birthday?
Sending personal notes of congratulations, recognizing significant life events, or checking in when you know someone is going through a hard time, is a great relationship building tool.
But wishing someone a happy birthday once a year is probably not enough to make sure that you are staying top of mind with someone in your network.
All of us appreciate being appreciated! Even if the appreciation has nothing to do with our professional accomplishments, getting a note like this form someone is very helpful in building relationships.
But don’t stop there. Find other ways to connect during the year. Make birthday wishes part of your visibility strategy (as long as it is sincere). And connect in between birthdays by sending articles, other things of value, or setting up coffees (virtual or otherwise.)
Relationship building is the foundation of all business development. If you want your law practice to grow, don’t ignore this.
Last week was a big birthday for me. I got a lot of birthday greetings from friends, family, and professional contacts. That made me feel great! And I hope I will connect with everyone before another year goes by.
