There’s something about the period around Labor Day that feels like a reset.
Maybe it’s because September has been a temporal marker for most of our lives, signaling the end of summer, the beginning of a new school year, and a return to more regular routines.
I notice it in my coaching practice too. Inquiries tend to pick up around Labor Day, just as they do after the new year, and I think there’s a reason for that.
This is a natural time to take stock of your legal career and ask whether you’re still moving in a direction that feels right. Maybe you’re feeling stuck and aren’t sure what you want to do next. If you’re in private practice, you may be thinking about whether you’re doing the things consistently that will build your practice, or whether some of those marketing habits disappeared over the summer.
A reset doesn’t have to mean making a major change, but it might. It could mean exploring a new role or even a different career direction. Or it might mean reconnecting with people you haven’t spoken with in a while, getting back to writing or posting, becoming more intentional about business development, or finally giving some attention to a career question you’ve been putting off.
Of course, summer isn’t really over. Here in the Boston area, we have some of our best weather ahead of us, and this is actually my favorite time of year.
But the rhythm changes at this time of year, and sometimes that change in rhythm is exactly what we need to start doing something differently.
If you’re feeling stuck, contemplating a change, or wanting to build better habits around your practice, coaching can help you figure out where you want to go and how to get there.
