snow blower

If marketing your practice sometimes feels unpredictable, you’re not imagining it.

A few weeks ago, our street in Newton, Massachusetts was basically a one-way road.

Two big snowstorms left snowbanks so high that cars could barely pass each other. The street narrowed to the point where traffic had to take turns.

Then, just a week later, we had a major thaw. The road opened up again.

No one could have predicted exactly when the thaw would come.

Marketing and business development often work the same way.

You can reach out to people. You can stay visible.

You can nurture relationships and look for ways to be helpful.

But you cannot predict exactly when opportunities will appear.

Sometimes the road feels narrow. Progress seems slow.

Conversations do not immediately lead anywhere.

Then suddenly the thaw comes.

A former client reaches out. A referral source makes an introduction.

Someone remembers you when a problem arises.

The opportunity may have been building quietly beneath the surface all along.

The lesson is simple.

Consistency matters more than prediction.

You cannot control the timing of opportunity. But you can control whether you stay visible, helpful, and connected while you wait for the thaw.
