This photo was taken around the time I graduated from college. I was skinnier then, my hair was a lot bushier, and my ideals were… well, huge. I wanted to change the world.
Fast-forward to today: my focus is more one-on-one. Through my work, I try to have a positive impact on the lives and careers of the lawyers I coach.
But looking at this picture—thanks to my son, Ari Seckler, who just graduated from law school and is about to start an Equal Justice Works fellowship—I’m reminded of something important: our influence can ripple far beyond the individuals we work with directly.
By supporting, mentoring, and championing others, we amplify our impact.
We may not always be able to change the whole world ourselves. But we can help others who will. And in doing so, we honor the ideals that once burned so brightly in our younger selves.
This is my why! I‘m proud of you son.
What’s something your younger self would be proud to see you doing today?
