My use of ChatGPT and other AI tools 🧠 has grown exponentially in the past 12 months. I have written several times about use cases that are saving me enormous amounts of time.
ChatGPT is also a great generator of ideas and a tremendous help when I am trying to remember how to phrase something (particularly for those of us with “mature” brains.)
As I continue to discover new ways to get value from these tools, I will continue to write about them. I also plan to share what I learn about these models, good and bad.
Initially, OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, told us that their model was only up to date as of several years ago. It still says “ChatGPT is not a real-time news product and may take time to update. Please check other sources for the latest information.”
But today is August 29th and it knows that Phil Donahue, the talk show host, died within the last two weeks.
This is not to say that we can or should rely exclusively on information that we get from an AI inquiry. As Ronald Reagan once said ” in the context of nuclear disarmament and arms control agreements with the Soviet Union “Trust but verify (I was pretty sure that Ronald Reagan said this, but I verified it on ChatGPT 😜).
ChatGPT often does an excellent job of summarizing documents. I have used it on many occasions when preparing for an interview.
These were articles that I had already read, but I was planning to interview the author for the Counsel to CounselPodcast. It was useful to have a summary in front of me. More importantly, ChatGPT gave me some great questions to ask the author (I still came up with some of my own and edited the ones ChatGPT provided, but it was a great start).
In addition, I have used ChatGPT to generate a short bio to introduce my guests.
In the next few months, I plan to interview some book authors, and while once again, I plan to read the books, I cannot always upload the book and ask for a summary (although sometimes I have a PDF and that works).
Yesterday, the model was struggling to read the book that I had uploaded (it probably had something to do with Kindle digital rights). I had not thought to just ask for a summary without uploading the book, because the book was published relatively recently.
To my surprise and delight, it appears that ChatGPT is continuing to keep up with its reading!
