I joined ProVisors today and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the members of my home group, Cambridge I.  ProVisors is a business networking organization that provides a great platform for building your network.  There are a lot of lawyers who are members and I can already see how valuable it is going to be.

The level of willingness to help others is very high and I know I am going to learn a lot about how to build relationships in a networking group.  I’m also looking forward to sharing my own network with the group.

One thing I picked up today is that a good tagline can go a long way in defining who you are for others.  If you take the time to craft something that is brief, memorable and descriptive, you have a greater chance of generating referrals down the road because people will remember you when they actually have the chance to make a referral.

Two members of our group had particularly effective taglines which I don’t think I’m likely to forget.  There was a trusts and estates lawyer, Sarah Hartline, who introduced herself and then said “If there’s a will, I’m the way”!  I don’t think I’m going to forget that.

There was also Pat Cote of AssetGrade LLC, an investment advisor.  Pat said that he provides financial planning and investment management services for HENRYs (High Earners, Not Rich Yet).

I’ve always enjoyed creative taglines and puns. My podcast and blog are called Counsel to Counsel.  But I never considered the value of a good tagline in a networking context.

I’m sure this is the first of many epiphanies I am likely to have in the coming months.  I’ll post them here as I become more enlightened.
